Se ha denominado CLAMOR BRZESKA en homenaje al artista y
escultor Henri Gaudier-Brzeska.
Su verdadero
nombre era Henri Gaudier. De origen francés, nació en Saint-Jean-de-Braye, en Loiret, en
1891.
Hijo de
carpintero; estudió dibujo en Inglaterra y Alemania entre los años 1906-1909. Luego
viajó a París y conoció a la polaca Sophie Brzeska, y vivió con ella a partir de 1910,
añadiendo su apellido al de él en 1911; la pareja se trasladó a Londres ese mismo año.
Estudiaba arte en los museos y comenzó a conocer artistas y escritores, como Epstein y
Katherine Mansfield.
En 1913 conoció a
Roger Fry, Frank Harris y Ezra Pound, quien lo presentó en el movimiento Vorticista;
contribuyó para los dos números de Blast en 1914-1915.
Gaudier hizo
muchos dibujos de animales, y en 1914 realizó esculturas semiabstractas de Ciervos y el
estilizado Pájaro engullendo un pez.
Ingresó en el
ejército francés en 1914, al estallar la Primera Guerra Mundial.
Este artista tan
prometedor fue muerto durante un ataque en Neuville St. Vaast, el 5 de julio de 1915, a la
edad de 23 años.
Sophie Brzeska

The name CLAMOR BRZESKA has been used as a homage to artist and sculptor Henri
Gaudier-Brzeska.
His real name was
Henri Gaudier. Of French origin, he was born in Saint-Jean-de-Braye, in Loiret, in 1891.
His father was a
carpenter. Gaudier studied drawing in England and Germany between 1906 and 1909. Then he
traveled to Paris, where met Polish Sophie Brzeska, and lived with her since 1910, adding
her last name to his in 1911; the couple moved to London that same year. He studied art in
the museums and started meeting artists and writers, such as Epstein and Katherine
Mansfield.
In 1913 Gaudier
met Roger Fry, Frank Harris, and Ezra Pound, who introduced him to the Vorticist movement.
He contributed to two issues of Blast in 1914 and 1915.
Gaudier made lots
of animal drawings, and in 1914 he made semi-abstract sculptures of Deer and the stylized
Bird eating fish.
He joined the
French army in 1914 when the First World War broke out.
This promising
artist was killed during an attack in Neuville St. Vaast on July 5, 1915, at the age of
23.
Sophie Brzeska
organized an exhibition in his memory in 1918.
